Course Objectives
After completing this course, the participant will be able to:
- Identify and categorize different types of waste generated in workplaces and determine which materials are subject to hazardous waste laws.
- Interpret and apply key federal regulations including the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the Department of Transportation’s Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Hazard Communication Standard.
- Select appropriate containers, labels, and storage areas for regulated waste materials and conduct compliant weekly inspections.
- Prepare hazardous waste for off-site transportation using legally required manifests and emergency response documentation.
- Choose appropriate treatment and disposal methods based on waste characteristics, volume, and regulatory restrictions.
